Measurement templates

A measurement template defines the measured quantities and measurement points for calibrating a device model. It contains the calibration procedure, units, nominal values, limits, and measurement uncertainties. Manage these details under Settings → Master data → Measurement templates.

Memida uses the template for recording measured values and for the digital calibration certificate (DCC). Store requirements for the location, required measurement conditions, and reference devices in a calibration plan. Record the actual measured values when calibrating the individual item of inspection equipment.

Create a template

Within your tenant, each device master record can have one current measurement template assigned to it. If needed, first create the device master data. The overview shows device master records with and without templates; you can search by device master record, template name, or procedure.

  1. Select Create measurement template.
  2. In 1 · Template, select the Device master record.
  3. Enter Name and Calibration procedure. Add a Description and Standard/Guideline if needed.
  4. Check the Template active switch.
  5. Open Continue to measurement points and enter the measurement groups and points.
  6. Select Add to save the complete template.

When creating a template, use Copy from existing template to copy the contents of an existing template. You can freely choose the target device master record. Check the copied values before saving; the new template is managed independently of the source template.

Template details

First enter the template’s basic details. The procedure and standard apply to all measurement groups unless you specify different details for a group:

FieldUse
Device master recordRequired assignment to the model. It remains unchanged when editing later.
NameRequired name; up to 255 characters.
DescriptionOptional explanatory text; up to 4,000 characters.
Calibration procedureRequired description of the procedure; up to 1,000 characters.
Standard/GuidelineOptional reference; up to 255 characters.
Template activeMarks the current template revision as active. Only device master records with an active template are offered for new calibration plans.

Define measurement groups and points

In 2 · Measurement groups, organize the template by measured quantity. A template requires at least one measurement group, and each group requires at least one measurement point.

Select Add measurement group. Enter a Name and the Measured quantity, then select the Unit (1). Under Further measurement group requirements, you can add a Description, an Alternative procedure, and an Alternative standard / guideline. If you do not specify an alternative, the template’s procedure or standard applies.

Use Add measurement point to add points to the group. The following details are required for each measurement point:

FieldMeaning
LabelName of the measurement point; up to 255 characters.
NominalSpecified nominal value.
MinimumLower limit.
MaximumUpper limit.
U (k = 2)Expanded measurement uncertainty with a coverage factor of 2.

For Nominal, Minimum, and Maximum (2), the upper limit must be at least equal to the lower limit. The nominal value must lie within the two limits. Measurement uncertainty U (k = 2) (3) must not be negative. All points in a measurement group use the same unit. You can enter decimal values with a comma or a period.

You can duplicate, delete, and reorder measurement groups and points. Use the respective move actions or drag an entry to the required position. The saved order is used for measured value entry and the calibration certificate.

Select units

Memida stores the unit as a readable Display, such as V, and in the machine-readable D-SI representation for the digital calibration certificate. Select the unit before editing the measurement points in a new group.

From the catalog

Under From catalog, use Search unit. The selection initially shows frequently used units. The search covers the entire catalog; scroll further to see additional units.

Changing units does not convert values

Selecting a unit sets both its display and D-SI representation. All measurement points in the group use this unit. If you later select Change unit, also check the numerical values of the measurement points: changing the unit does not automatically convert nominal values, limits, or measurement uncertainties.

Compose a unit

Under Compose, build a unit from catalog entries:

  1. Select at least one unit in the Numerator.
  2. Add further units with Factor or Add denominator if needed.
  3. Set the Power and Fraction denominator for the factors if needed.
  4. Check the generated Display and D-SI representation.

Each selected unit may appear only once in the composition. The numbers for the power and fraction denominator must be integers between 1 and 12. Certain units allow only a power of 1; Memida displays invalid combinations as errors.

Changes and revisions

In the overview, select More → Edit on an existing template. Save your changes with Save. Each change creates a new Revision; the assignment to the device master record is retained.

Calibration plans and calibration runs already started retain their fixed template revision. Later changes to nominal values or limits are not applied. Update the calibration plan to the new template revision if it should apply to future calibrations.

If another user saves the template while you are editing, your editor stays open. Memida loads the current revision and asks you to check your entries and save again. If the current version cannot be loaded, try again later or reopen the template.

When closing with unsaved changes, you can choose Continue editing or Discard changes. Discarded entries made since opening are not saved.

Archive a template

In the template menu, select Archive template and confirm Archive measurement template?. The template is then no longer available for new calibrations. Completed inspection reports, calibration certificates, and template revisions already used remain unchanged.

A calibration plan whose template has been archived can no longer be used for a new calibration run. Check the affected plans and withdraw any plans you no longer need.

You can then create another template for the device master record. Memida continues the revision sequence, preserving the revisions used previously.
